Fast Food Causes Obesity For Kids

I read an article called “Study Links Fast-Food Ads To Child Obesity.” I learned that fast food advertisements have a huge influence on kids. I read that “A new study suggests that banning fast-food ads on TV could reduce the number of obese young children by 18 percent, and the number of obese older kids by 14 percent” which is a good deduction in obese kids. The article also said, “The study is based in part on several years of government survey data from the late 1990s. It also suggests that dropping an advertising expense tax deduction for fast-food restaurants could mean a slight reduction in childhood obesity” which makes me angry because the government knows that the obese kids’ health are affected by these fast food ads and they haven’t taken action yet. Hopefully the government will take care of the taxes for fast food. The study is being published in November in the Journal of Law & Economics.
I also think that using characters such as Ronald McDonald is a way to suck children into eating fast food. Kids are also attracted to the play places in the restaurants. I agree that fast food advertising should be banned. I also think that parents need to encourage their children to live a healthy life style by eating right.

What do you think?

I think that is true that little kids are influenced by the characters they see on t.v but the parents do buy the food. I don't really think its the fast food company's we should blame but it's the parents who feed their kids.

I think it is more the parents that should watch what their kids eat and monitor how many calories are being taking in. It is the parents that are not finding enough time to cook dinner and stuff like that and resorting to fast food which is so bad. It is not the fast food restuarants fault entirly.

I think the parents should know what there feeding there kids. I also think that once in a while it not that bad. But if they eat their constantly then it is a bad thing. I think McDonalds for active healthy kids is one of the most hypocritical things in the world

I agree with the others who commented. It is all up to the parents of the children. Because a 4 year old child cant just go buy a happy meal anytime he is hungry. The parent is just lazy and does not want to make the child something healthy.

Little kids are very influenced with what they see on tv and what is around them so when parents pass a McDonalds kids always yell i want to go, but parents cant give in the easily. Tell your kids that your going to make dinner at home, if they cry let them. YES, fast food is quick and easy for when your on the go but eating it every day when you can get something healthy is a problem. thats why the parents have realize that feeding their kids fast food all the time isn't good for the long run. Kids copy what parents do and it they eat fast food all the time, when they get older thats what their eat.

I agree with this because the rate of child obesity is getting higher, and these fast food restaurants are a big cause to the problem. In the McDonalds ads, do you ever see a "heavy" or even "over weight" person? The answer is no, we always see slim/slender people. If they showed heavy people, people will be a bit turned off by this, because this may be a signal to them that these foods are not good for them. Sure their food is delicious, but is it really worth it? These fast food advertisers are making huge sums of money, and need to stopped. They're false advertising schemes need to end soon, before it's too late.
